The fruit of our labours for the last 12 months, we were delighted yesterday when, following a photoshoot at the Castle with HRH Prince Charles, A Taste of Mey was launched at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh. A 230-page hardback book, it has been published by the Castle of Mey, the Queen Mother's former home in Caithness, Scotland, in order to raise funds for the upkeep of the Castle.
The book has already featured in editorials in The Sunday Telegraph, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail, as well as the John O'Groat Journal! Forthcoming features are expected in The Scotsman, The Herald, The Sun, Daily Mirror, a Dutch TV programme, two German magazines, the Edinburgh Evening News, Foodie Magazine, and Fabulous Food Magazine, with more to follow. Watch this space!
Also, watch this video which tells the story behind the book's genesis:
The book is filled with affectionate stories of the Castle, from a host of contributors, alongside encounters and fond memories of The Queen Mother; never-before-seen photographs of life on the Royal Estate; and delicious dishes – many of which were favourites of The Queen Mother, and the recipes for which are divulged for the very first time.
Transporting the reader to the northern tip of the British Isles, through the Castle’s heavy oak doors, and into a place adored by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, A Taste of Mey is a unique and fascinating insight into Royal life and food in Scotland.
With a foreword by HRH Prince Charles, the book is compiled and edited by Christina Murray. A Taste of Mey will guide the reader through a castle banquet of starters, meats, fish, poultry, puddings, vegetables, savouries, and baking, and is a story of great affection for an inspiring person and unique place.
